Doreen Colondres is the creator of The Kitchen Doesn't Bite and the author of the best-seller La Cocina No Muerde, published by Penguin Random House. She is also an international editor of cuisine and wines and recently founded her first Vitis House school in Raleigh, North Carolina.
As an active media personality, chef, certified wine educator (WSET3) and a tireless world traveler, Doreen’s mission is to inspire us to enjoy cooking with fresh ingredients and appreciate the time we spend sitting at the table eating while enjoying a good wine.
Through her most recent partnerships in 2018 and 2019 include Fermín Ibérico, Barilla Pasta, the National Pork Board and Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical, Doreen was able to spread her passion for quality foods even farther.
In the past, she’s accomplished this by representing brands like Bumble Bee Seafood, Fresh Fruits from Chile, Martin Codax Albariño, Bush Beans, Target, General Mills, NAHREP and California Raisins, among others.
Working passionately to keep people informed about the benefits of fresh ingredients, in 2018 Doreen was a spokesperson for Hass Avocado and the American Heart Association for the Healthy for Good campaign. In 2015, she designed a healthy eating plan for Univision's Reto28 campaign to encourage Latinos to live healthier lives. The campaign was supported by the American Heart Association and reached nearly one million subscribers.
In 2014, Doreen became the first Hispanic Chef for the Bordeaux Wine Council, the most prestigious wine region in the world. In 2015, she worked as a judge and spokesperson for the tasting of the 2011 Ribera del Duero vintage in Spain and the following year she was an ambassador for Ribera del Duero in Mexico.
In 2016, she had the adventure of working her first harvest at Chateau Biac in Bordeaux, France and in 2010 she was a jury member of the prestigious Tapas and Pinchos contest at the Valladolid culinary school in Spain. She was also selected by Bodegas Monteviejo for two consecutive years as chef of the prestigious Master of Food and Wine Park Hyatt Mendoza in Argentina.
Doreen has presented cooking segments on Telemundo and Univisión and conducted three cooking shows with the FoxLife & Utilísima channel in 16 Latin American countries. Her weekly articles are read throughout the United States and even in Spain, Panama, Canada, Dubai, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Certified with WSET 3 (Wine & Spirits Education Trust), Court of Master Sommelier 1, US Sommelier Association 2 and École du Vin in Bordeaux, Doreen demonstrates her on-stop commitment to learning and improving her skills. She also has a BA in Marketing and studied at culinary schools in NY, CA and FL.
In addition, she supports Slow Food USA and participates in educational food and wine programs around the world.
