Doreen Colondres wants to convince the world that The Kitchen Doesn’t Bite®! A leading figure in today’s “cocina latina” movement, passionate about teaching people to cook with fresh, healthy, seasonal ingredients and an expert in the entire range of Latin cooking–from Central America and the Caribbean to Spain and everywhere in between—she is determined to revolutionize the way Latinos approach food, cooking, and eating.
A sought-after television personality and journalist; a natural-born cook; and an accomplished expert on food, wine, tequila and cooking with an impressive array of degrees and honors to her name. Through her wide reaching media platform, including her show “Boricuas” and two daily cooking segment “Hola Martin” and “Tu Vida Más Simple” on Fox’s Utilisima Network airing in over 16 countries, to her monthly features as the Food Editor for the renowned national magazine Siempre Mujer, Doreen inspires people from all walks of life to cook healthy and delicious Latin foods using wholesome ingredients—and to have fun doing it.
On April, 2013 she became the first Hispanic Celebrity Chef for Bumble Bee, the most important seafood company in the US. Doreen is their only bilingual and bicultural ambassador, helping Bumble Bee connect with the growing U.S. Hispanic market. She will be creating some amazingly flavorful new recipes infused with Latin flavors, fresh ingredients and featuring Bumble Bee’s gourmet Prime Fillet products, in addition to helping extend Bumble Bee’s successful “BeeWell for Life” brand philosophy and encourage Hispanic consumers to exercise and live healthy and delicious lives.
She also has done extensive work as consultant, ambassador and celebrity chef spokesperson for brands such as Que Rica Vida from General Mills, Bush Beans, Got Milk, Archer Farms for Target, California Raisins, Ribera del Duero wine region, Chilean Fresh Fruit and Blueberries from Chile. Doreen host press tours and special appearances and is also a frequent culinary presenter on Univision’s “Despierta América” – one of the most watched morning television shows in the United States. She has been invited by “Consejo Regulador de Ribera del Duero” in Spain, to be part of the professional committee for their 2011 vintage grand tasting.
Born into a family of cooks, Doreen’s relationship with cooking began at an early age. Influenced by her roots and a family life that centered around the kitchen and food, her upbringing instilled the importance and benefits of using the freshest ingredients - having grown up using mostly homegrown fruits and vegetables. To the Colondres family, cooking together represented the joy of family life, and Doreen inherited that passion for food and excitement from her grandparents. As a child, Doreen learned to bring enthusiasm and comfort to the process of cooking, giving traditional Latino cuisine a renewed vitality seen in her recipes and approach to “Cocina Latina” today. This novel approach moves beyond strict recipes and invites her fans to explore and experiment with new ingredients. Doreen’s following of fans from around the world love the creativity, ease, and approachability she brings to cooking.
Doreen has a degree in marketing and business administration and several culinary arts degrees and certifications from San Francisco, New York and Miami schools including the United States Sommelier Association at Le Cordon Bleu in Miami. Additionally, Doreen has traveled the world, always seeking to expand her knowledge and understanding of Hispanic foods and cooking techniques and searching for and tasting the innumerable spices and combinations that make up the diversity of the Latin cuisine.
Doreen is determined to spread her unparalleled knowledge of Latin cooking and her enormous passion for using fresh, wholesome ingredients to create delicious, healthy, easy and fun meals. Most importantly, Doreen is on a mission to convince people around the world that cooking is fun, relaxing, healthy, passionate, and easy—that, in fact, The Kitchen Doesn’t Bite.
